When you think of psychobilly and you know you do , what images does your head conjure up? Guys with shark-finned quiffs, cuffed jeans and creepers? Girls with streaked hair, pompadour bangs and fishnet stockings? Can you imagine Elvis taking a deranged detour during his 1950s movie career…into hardcore horror flicks? What if you got the chance to make a psychobilly movie? What members from what bands would star in it? Do your punk rock daydreams and rockabilly nightmares include graveyards and ghost towns as backdrops? When you think of psychobilly, do you think of the upright (stand-up) bass?

The PSYCHOBILLY*US sub-label was specifically designed by Texas music company HairBall8 Records to cater to the growing psychobilly subculture in the United States of America . Since 1996, HairBall8 Records has helped develop psychobilly music in the U.S.A. by unleashing it to the public through the formats of CD, DVD and live performance. The PSYCHOBILLY*US label was created as an identifier…a brand logo so that fans of the psychobilly subculture know to expect quality when they see the logo…whether it be on a CD, DVD or item of clothing.

For the record, the philosophy of PSYCHOBILLY * US is composed of the following beliefs:

All debates over definitions and origins of the word “psychobilly” aside, the Meteors are the band that first spawned psychobilly as a music scene and subculture in the early 1980s…and have been running with it ever since.
With perhaps an exception or two (Meteors during different periods), the upright (or stand-up) bass is the most integral component of psychobilly music…the instrument is both the genre's link to rockabilly and the key to its development. In general, without the upright bass it ain't psycho!
With the above two points in mind, PSYCHOBILLY*US attempts to represent all the components within the psychobilly subculture in its present day incarnation. That means we support the traditional aspects of the psychobilly scene such as its ties to 50s rockabilly and garage music…but we also give the thumbs up to the current influences of Metal and Goth on the genre.

We've got a nice roster of psychobilly bands here for you to check out…please continue to check back with us regularly as we release and distribute a wide variety of psychobilly oriented music, movies and clothing.
